Coordination

The Global Alliance engages in a variety of research, networking, and policy related activities. One is its regular support for the biannual Social and Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) Summit (www.sbccsummit.org). The first Summit was held in Addis Ababa in 2016 with substantial support from the Global Alliance (Obregon & Feek, 2018). A second Summit was held in Nusa Dua in 2018, and a third planned for Marrakesh in 2000 (subsequently rescheduled for 2022). This support for the Summit continues. Other activities are undertaken through the work of the Alliance’s clusters.

The Global Alliance has participated in policy-relevant meetings to represent its perspective on information, communication, and dialog processes. It has also hosted meetings during which methods, practices, and case studies were highlighted. The Global Alliance hosted meetings on SBC during High Level Political Forums of the United Nations SDGs in 2018 and 2019. It also held a “Climate Action Event” during the United Nations Climate Change Summit in 2019 to demonstrate the effective use of communication programs in support of the SDGs. The Global Alliance also had a presence at the Women Deliver Conference, the world’s largest gathering dedicated to the health, rights, and wellbeing of women and girls, held in Vancouver, Canada during 2019; an International Social Marketing Conference in Edinburg in 2019, and academic conferences in Columbus, Ohio, Madrid, Spain, and Tampere, Finland.

As of early 2021, the Alliance has been developing SBC Policy Briefs in collaboration with the SBCC Summit Secretariat. The Briefs in this series mostly summarize research findings drawn from the Global Alliance’s research database, though some briefs will focus on evidence from other sources or discuss policy issues of topical interest. The Alliance also offers a series of global webinars in topic areas, such as ethics in SBC and current applications of behavioural insights theory and nudge campaigns for social and behaviour change efforts.
